A Place for Questions, Ideas, and Conversation
Dentistry has given me many years of experience. It has also given me many questions.
Some emerge from clinical practice. Others come from conversations with patients and colleagues, developments in technology, experiences across different healthcare systems, or simply from wondering whether there might be another way of looking at something familiar.
Insights is a place to explore those questions.
The perspectives shared here will touch on clinical practice, professional development, technology, collaboration, leadership, and the evolving relationship between dentistry and healthcare. Some articles may examine challenges I encounter in practice. Others may explore emerging possibilities or ideas that deserve further conversation.
The intention is to encourage reflection rather than prescribe answers.
A space for perspective, not prescription
The ideas shared here represent professional perspectives and reflections. They are intended as food for thought and as a contribution to broader conversations within dentistry and healthcare.
They are not a substitute for professional judgment, individualized diagnosis, or medical or dental advice. Every patient and clinical situation is different, and decisions about care should be made by appropriately qualified professionals with an understanding of the individual circumstances involved.
For patients and members of the public, the information shared here should not replace consultation with their own healthcare professionals or be used as a basis for starting, stopping, or changing treatment.
Thinking can evolve
One of the reasons I wanted to create this space is because worthwhile questions rarely end with a single answer.
Evidence develops. Technology changes. Clinical experience accumulates. Other professionals bring perspectives we may not have considered. Patients continue to teach us about the experience of receiving care.
My own thinking will continue to evolve as well.
Insights is therefore intended to be a growing conversation rather than a collection of final conclusions.
Experience includes what did not go as planned
A career is rarely shaped only by the moments when everything goes well. Mine has been shaped by challenges as much as by successes.
Over the years, there have been decisions I would approach differently today, situations that challenged my assumptions, ideas that changed with experience, and moments that asked me to reflect more carefully on how I practice, communicate, lead, and work with others.
I do not see professional growth as reaching a point where we always have the right answer. I see it as developing the willingness to examine our decisions honestly, remain open to what an experience can teach us, and allow that learning to influence what we do next.
Some of the most valuable lessons in my career have come from experiences that challenged me rather than confirmed what I already believed.
Growth requires the willingness to reconsider what we thought we knew.
That perspective will also have a place here. Insights is not intended to present a polished version of professional life in which every decision was obvious and every outcome unfolded as expected. It is a space for exploring what experience can teach us—including the experiences that cause us to reconsider, adapt, and grow.
An invitation to the conversation
I hope these articles create opportunities to think, question, exchange ideas, and occasionally look at familiar aspects of dentistry from a different perspective.
Agreement is not required. Curiosity is.
If something here starts a conversation—with a colleague, within a team, across professions, or simply in your own thinking—then this space is doing what I hoped it would do.
The conversation begins here, and I look forward to seeing where it leads.
